MUSIC RECITAL – The piano and violin students of Janice Johnston performed at a recital for approximately 40 of their family and friends on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15. Sharing their talents were Summer South, Brogan Groves, Josey Weaver, Daniel Cerveny, Kaitlyn Halterman and Joshuah Sparks. A light lunch was served and attendees spent the remaining time visiting.
Janice sends a special thank you to Mary Weaver, Betty Griffith, Maralynn Rinker, Ned Johnston, and the Rippey city council for the use of the piano and community room, as well as the families of Carson Griffith for the gift of the piano and the inspiration it always gives to the students. Thanks to Betty Griffith for sharing the program information for the Rippey News and I know from past recitals, it was entertaining for those who attended. (Jean Borgeson)
CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS – Jean Borgeson attended two Christmas programs last week. Granddaughter Sierra was part of the Center for Educational Excellence in Tempe, AZ, program, featuring the students of Mr Cruz, whose style was reminiscent of Carson Griffith. The students from pre-school to eighth grade performed a variety of upbeat Christmas music that was fun and entertaining.
Jayden and Sophia, kindergarten students at Gethsemane Lutheran School in Tempe, presented their Christmas program the following evening. The students were just as entertaining, as most programs are that feature first time performers who either cry, wiggle or otherwise want to be anywhere else, just not on a stage with lights and lots of people watching!
Going to one of these programs anywhere, whether you know the kids or not, will brighten even the heaviest heart this time of year!
Grandma was in charge of the girls Saturday morning. They attended the annual Holiday Pancake Breakfast Extravaganza at Sierra’s school. Sierra was part of a cheerleading group who performed before breakfast. Sierra also helped make a wreath with her classmates for the silent auction, so Grandma had to sign up, with guidance from Sierra. After the time outside, enjoying the man-made snow, train ride, bouncy house and many games provided for the morning visitors, we discovered Grandma had won the bid for the wreath! As we were leaving, five princesses were waiting in their finest attire and the girls were excited to have their picture taken with them!
Jayden was with his dad at basketball, where he was presented with his trophy and just as excited to share his morning with the rest of us. Mom was with a friend for a couple days, helping her paint in her house. It was quite a weekend for all, especially at one point when the twins and I came home from school and I didn’t shut the door soon enough, so the alarm went off! Fortunately, I knew the code to shut it off, but Sophia was sure the police were going to come! There is nothing dull about this household!
